Talking about Indian food habits, you may notice that we Indians always start our meal with something spicy and ends up with sweets. It’s a common food habit in every Indian family. We start with fried vegetables, pulses (daal), rice, chapatti (flour bread), pickles, curry, etc. In the end, Indians finish their meal with types of sweets or ice-cream. This is definitely not a trivial practice that Indians are following for decades. Like other Indian traditions, this culture also has some scientific reason behind.

Sweets mostly contain white sugar, preservative colors, and carbohydrates, which is undoubtedly unhealthy. If desserts are consumed before the main course, the carbs in it result in slushy digestion. On the other hand, when we eat spicy food, our body releases digestive juice and acids to intensify the digestive system. Eating spicy food first ensures smooth digestion.

Sweet contains sugar that boosts the absorption of amino acid tryptophan. Tryptophan increases the levels of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that is connected to the sensations of well-being. We must experience this feeling after eating the full meal, right?

So, these are the reasons why we Indians always start a meal with spicy food and end with something sweet. All Indian habits and traditions came from the Vedas, and each is backed by Vedic science. So, if you never knew this, try this food habit now onwards. You will surely enjoy eating like this and gain health benefits. Happy eating!
