Goddess Shailputri is one of the most mighty and divine forms of Goddess Durga and is also known as “Navadurgas.” She is being worshipped on the first day of Navratri – one of the biggest Hindu festivals worldwide. By adjoining two Sanskrit words – ‘Shail’ (means: mountains) and ‘Putri’ (means: daughter), the name Goddess Shailputri induced, which means “The daughter of mountains.”

However, devotees also know Goddess Shailputri with various names like Goddess Parvati, Mata Sati Bhavani, Goddess Hemavati, etc. Since she is the first goddess to be worshipped in the auspicious Navratri festival; also, people praise her as ‘Pratham Shailputri (the first Shailputri).

Why should we worship Goddess Shailputri?

According to Hindu mythology, Mata Shailputri is considered the godhead of Root Chakra that is elicited for the spiritual awakening by performing meditation. People believe that by worshipping Goddess Shailputri, she bestows Shakti (power) to people to attain higher spiritual growth. Also, adherents praise her as Purna Prakriti Durga, whose abode is Muladhara Chakra.

From the Yogic perspective, the first day of Navratri is a significantly promising day for spiritual growth that symbolizes the beginning of a spiritual journey. If you follow the correct rituals for Shaiputri Puja (prayer), she will grant you boons, too. Moreover, you can earn energy and drive it to make meaningful purposes in your life. One will, further, receive the power and strength to face life challenges well.
