After the sacred Ambubachi period, when Goddess Kamakhya is believed to rest during her annual menstruation, devotees resume daily worship with devotion and gratitude. Here is a simple guide to follow in your home mandir.
1. Clean and Purify the Mandir
Start by cleaning the shrine thoroughly. Wash altar cloths, deity clothes, and any items used during Ambubachi. Replace the red covering used during the festival with fresh cloth. This symbolizes purity and the goddess’s renewed energy.
2. Open the Mandir
If you kept your mandir covered or closed during Ambubachi, open it with reverence. Light lamps and incense to welcome the goddess back into your spiritual space.
3. Bathe and Dress the Deities
If possible, bathe the deities with water or Panchamrita. Apply sandalwood paste, kumkum, and turmeric. Dress them in fresh, clean clothes.
4. Offer Bhog and Flowers
Prepare a simple or elaborate offering with seasonal fruits, sweets, and cooked dishes. Offer flowers, water, and Naivedyam with a heart full of devotion.
5. Perform Aarti and Chant
Light a lamp and perform aarti while ringing a bell. Recite the Kamakhya Stotra or any hymn of your choice. Silent meditation is also encouraged.
6. Seek Blessings
Pray sincerely and make your wishes. This is believed to be a powerful time to seek the goddess’s grace.
7. Invite a Young Girl (Optional)
Feeding a young girl, seen as a form of the goddess, is considered very auspicious.
8. Offer Prasad
Distribute the prasad among family and friends, spreading divine blessings and joy.
These rituals celebrate the goddess’s return and welcome divine energy into your home.
