The Story Of Pitamaha Bhishma

Pitamaha Bhishma is a key figure in the Indian epic Mahabharata. Born as Devavrata, Bhishma was the son of King Shantanu and the river goddess Ganga. He was blessed with divine powers and great knowledge from birth.

Bhishma’s dedication and loyalty were unmatched. He played a crucial role in the Kuru dynasty and was a respected elder. His wisdom and bravery made him a revered character.

Bhishma took a lifelong vow of celibacy to help his father marry the woman he loved. This vow earned him the name “Bhishma,” meaning “the terrible.” As a grand uncle to both the Pandavas and Kauravas, Bhishma played a key part in the epic war.
