Goddess Saraswati is the Hindu deity worshipped grandly in many Indian territories, especially in Hindu Bengali culture, Saraswati puja is a must in every student-households and educational institution. She is the goddess of knowledge, wisdom, learning, music, art, and speech.

Students glorify Saraswati seeking education and wise knowledge in life. Bengali Hindus worship her in the spring season in the Hindu month Magh on the Panchami Thithi. Therefore the festival is also called Vasant Panchami.

Goddess Saraswati is among the “Tridevi” (three goddesses)- Saraswati, Parvati, and Laxmi and the spouse of Lord Brahma– the creator.

Saraswati’s appearance is more subtle and calm. She is seen sitting on a “lotus”– symbolizing purity and enlightenment, wearing “white saree” symbolizing peace and purity, holding the “Veena” in hands- signifying music and learning. Thereby she is also recognized as “Veenapani” (the goddess who carries a veena) or “Veenavadini” (the goddess who plays veena).

The significance of goddess Saraswati is mentioned from the Vedic period since she is the goddess of Rig Veda. On the Saraswati puja or Saraswati Jayanti, young devotees wear traditional yellow saree and kurta pajama and perform ‘Pushpanjali’ (flower offering) by chanting Saraswati mantras. Despite, little kids learn to write their alphabets on that auspicious day with the grace of Saraswati.

Students and musicians pray goddess Saraswati in honor of her and also pursuit to achieve success in examinations. You should praise her to invoke her blessings.
