Lakshadeepam is a lighting ceremony or festival, which takes place in the iconic Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple once every six years. The temple is situated in the Thiruvananthapuram region of India. This ceremony provides a visual treat to the eyes since lacs of “Deep” or oil lamps, brass, or earthen lamps get lighted around the temple premises all around its structure.
Lakshadeepam festival marks the culmination of the 56-day Murajapam festival at Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple. The festival comprises solemn chanting of the Vedas, each lasting eight days in seven sessions.
Witnessing this ancient lighting festival is truly incredible as the temple feels like bathing in the shimmering lights of the lamps. On this occasion, thousands of devotees visit and flock to the temple premises to witness this magnificent vintage shrine. Devotees gather here to get a glimpse of the stunning swirling oil lamps arranged at each entrance and the radiating illuminations of the Shivelipura and Gopuram.
