Maha Sasthi, the 6th day of the most significant Indian festival– Durga puja, is observed broadly in India, especially in West Bengal and Odissa. The glory and triumph of the goddess Durga is also celebrated during the Durga puja festival or Navratri. However, the Durga puja celebration continues for long 6days, known as Maha-Sasthi, Maha-Saptami, Maha-Ashtami, Maha-Navami, and Maha-Dashami, or Vijayadashami.

Maha Sasthi marks the commencement of Durga Puja, starts with gratifying Maha Sasthi puja (devotion), and ornamentation of Maa Durga. Maha Sasthi flowers with a gigantic celebration with full gusto among the Bengalis.

Eartherians believes that, on Maha Sasthi, goddess Durga enters the mortal world from mount Kailash to visit her father with her children- Kartik, Ganesha, Laxmi, and Saraswati. Maha Sasthi is the day of unveiling Durga’s face and to welcome her. The ritual is called Bodhan, the devotion of the goddess Durga idol. Three more significant rites are being performed following by Bodhan– Kalparamba: the beginning of the Pujas, Amantran: inviting the goddess, and Adhibas: consecrating the stay of the deity in the Pandal or Puja premises.
