Jagannath Temple is one of the Char Dhams (four abodes) situated in Puri, Odisha (An Indian state). This temple is highly dedicated to Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and their sister goddess Subhadra. However, there are several surprising facts lies associated with this temple.

• The installed idols in the temple are made of wood from the Neem tree (Indian lilac). Those idols get replaced every 8 or 12, or 19 years.

• Each year, thousands of devotees visit this temple. In the temple premises, a holy Prasad (offering) gets prepared for devotees daily. And the most striking fact about it is, neither a single unit of this prasad gets wasted or falls short.

• Besides, the flag on the top of the temple always waves in the opposite direction of the wind. It’s get changed every day. And the belief is that the tradition has remained practiced for the last 1800 years. Legend says that if they fail to change the flag for a single day, the temple will get closed for the next 18 years.

• To date, no airplane or even a bird has crossed over this temple.
• On the top of the temple, there’s a ‘Chakra‘ named “Neel Chakra,” which is made of Ashtadhatu (eight metals), whose height is 11ft 8 inches. The specialty of Neel Chakra is, if you look at it from any side, it appears facing towards you.
• If you enter the temple from Singh Dwar, the sound of sea waves stops. And you can hear the waves only after getting out of the temple.
• The chariot of Lord Jagannath is “Nandighosha.” The chariot of Lord Balabhadra is “Taladhwaja,” and the chariot of Goddess Subhadra is “Darpadalana.”
