“LOTUS”- The Sacred Flower Of India; Natural Remedy For Digestion & Diarrhea

Lotus is the national flower of India. The lotus flower is one of the most ancient symbols of our planet. The symbol of Truth, Auspiciousness, and Beauty (or Satyam, Shivam, Sundaram).

Not only in Hinduism but lotus is an auspicious flower in Buddhism as well. It has a lot of significance in medical history also. Lotus petals are used to stop bleedingLotus seeds are used to treat disorders of the digestive tract and diarrhea.

You may have seen Hindu Gods and Goddesses standing over a lotus flower and holding a lotus in hand. The Goddess of wealth Laxmi sits on a lotus and holds one lotus flower in her hand. According to Hindu mythology, lotus has evolved from the navel of Lord Vishnu. Thus, Lord Brahma originated from it and created the world.

Lotus symbolized purity, as in pure mind and heart. We all know lotus blooms in slushy areas yet remain beautiful and pure. Likewise lotus, we all can and should keep our mind and heart pure in any circumstances.

A lotus blooms with the sun and closes at night. In the same manner, our minds open up and expand with the light of knowledge. The lotus flower represents long life, health, honor, and good luck.

Many know the name of lotus in Hindi as Padma, Pankaja, Kamal, Kamala, Kamalakshi etc.

Lotus flowers remain surrounded by lotus leaves, which floats in the water but never gets wet. It symbolized as the joyous man of wisdom, unaffected by the world of sorrow and change.

In Bhagavad Gita, there is a shloka:

Brahmanyaadhaaya Karmaani

Sangam Tyaktvaa Karoti Yaha

Lipyate Na Sa Paapena

Padma Patram Ivaambhasaa ||
