Shiva and Shakti (Goddess Parvati) – the supreme powers of Tridev and Tridevi are the saviors of the universe. Every mythology believers are well-known about the two sons of mighty Shiva and mother Parvati; Lord Ganesha and Lord Kartik. But very few people know about the third child (daughter) of them, named Ashoka Sundari.
Yes, you read it right. According to Padma Purana, Parvati made Ashoka Sundari or Tripurasundari out of clay. While Kartik moved out of mount Kailash, and Shiva was gone to fight demon Tarakasura’s children, lonely goddess Parvati went to tree ‘Kalpavruksha’, the tree who solves everyone’s problem.
Sitting under the Kalpavruksha, Parvati made a clay girl and wished the tree to make it alive. Her wish got granted, and thus Ashoka Sundari was born.
‘Ashoka’ means ‘the one who ended the sorrows’, and ‘Sundari’ means ‘beautiful’. She was a very kind and soft girl, yet the explanation of ‘pure beauty’. As Ashoka Sundari ended the anguish of her parents, she symbolizes the divine love between mother and daughter.
As Shiva blessed her, she is responsible for protecting and spreading the Dharma (religion or the way of life) in the universe too.
